I don't know about you, but I am glad I don't have to rear snails. However, this business is very enterprising, if a bit of a slow starter. Personally, I'm not a lover of snails with, or without garlic.
The consumption of snails as a type of delicacy is very popular. Millions of them are captured and consumed for food annually. However, the majority of snails used for food are grown on snail farms. This also helps to ensure that the best types of snails are the ones that are available. When they are harvested they are actually fed a special type of diet so that they will have a better taste than those found in the wild. Of course you will pay more for this type of snail, but most people find them to be delicious and well worth it.
A few facts about snails.
The life span of a snail is between 5 and 25 years.
The largest land snail recorded weighed 2 pounds and was 15 inches long.
As snails move they leave behind slime. This slime is like a powerful form of suction for them. This is why they are even able to move upside down, around corners, and other comical situations. It is a myth that this type of slime is going to make humans ill. Many people worry that snails being in their garden will ruin the foods grown there and make them unfit for consumption but that is all false.
Snails are considered to be one of the slowest creatures on earth.
Snails are deaf and almost blind.
They have the reproductive organs of both males and females which categorizes them as hermaphrodites. However, the myth that they can create offspring on their own is false. They must mate with another and then both of them will have the ability to lay eggs.
Snails will die if they consume either salt or sugar.
